Transparency is extremely important to us. We share as much information as possible about how our food is produced and how it gets to us.
Product range
Our goal is for you to be able to do all your shopping at SuperCoop. You can find out exactly what products we carry here.
Organic and Conventional
Our product range currently includes over 4,000 items, the majority of which are organic.
However, we also offer conventional products. We do this when the price difference compared to organic products is too high.
Product Guidelines
Together, we have established 10 guidelines that the purchasing team uses to select products.
- Cultural and economic sensitivity toward current and future members
- Healthy and delicious products
- Origin
- Seasonality
- Sustainable farming methods
- Animal welfare
- Fairness (equity toward producers)
- Occupational safety and human rights
- Minimal packaging
- Climate positivity
Product Requests
All members are involved in the ongoing development of our product range. There are also lists posted in the entrance area where you can easily add your product requests.
Our Manufacturers
To offer products that are as local and seasonal as possible, we work directly with our producers whenever possible. This applies in particular to dairy products, meat, bread, vegetables, and fruit.
We source additional items through wholesalers, as direct sourcing isn’t possible for all products.
Pricing
Our pricing is transparent and communicated openly.
Fair for producers and consumers
At SuperCoop, we aim for fair prices for both producers and consumers. We work to strike a balance between the needs of producers and suppliers and our own needs as buyers.
Pricing
At SuperCoop, there is a fixed and transparent gross margin on all products. For example, the fixed margin for dry goods is 26 percent. For fruits and vegetables, as well as refrigerated and frozen products, it is 30 percent.
Reduced Margins
There is a reduced margin of 15 percent on 12 basic necessities. Our goal is to ensure that all members can afford these products. Pasta and rice, for example, fall into this category. We also have a “Bread of the Month” promotion every month, where the margin is also reduced. You can recognize products with a reduced margin on our shelves by their green price tags.
Comparison to Organic Markets
On average, prices are 15 to 30 percent lower than at organic markets with a comparable selection. How is this possible? Operating costs are reduced through member participation. Only a few full-time staff members manage the supermarket, while daily tasks such as stocking shelves and operating the registers are handled by the members. Since all customers are members, we also spend very little on marketing. Operating costs are covered by fixed margins on all products.
Profits
SuperCoop is a social enterprise. This means that all profits are reinvested entirely back into the supermarket. Financial reports and information on product purchases are available to all members.
